On March 14, there was a ceremony held in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, to announce the High-Quality Vietnamese Goods Award 2023. Within the framework of the event, a seminar with the theme “Journey toward a green economy” also took place. Speaking at the seminar, Mr Vo Tan Thanh, Vice President of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), expressed that modern-day consumers expect more than just affordable and good-quality products; they also require products that meet environmental and social standards.

From the perspective of plastic enterprises, Mr Le Anh, Sustainable Development Director of Duy Tan Plastics Recycling Company (Vietnam), said that the company has received 15 different certifications regarding plastic standards for food and drink products. In 2022, the company exported 4,000 tons of recycled plastic pellets to the US market. At the same time, they collected and recycled more than 1.3 billion plastic bottles in Vietnam. In other words, these plastic bottles, instead of being buried or drifting into the sea, have been recycled, and parts of them have been imported by the US market. This Vietnamese company is also a supplier of recycled plastic packaging for various global brands such as La Vie, Suntory PepsiCo, Unilever, and Coca-Cola.

Since 2010, Vietnam has started to implement the national strategy for green economic development and has signed 15 free trade agreements, many of which include strict environmental and sustainable development requirements. Vietnamese enterprises’ commitment to green economic development is an encouraging sign for the future of sustainable business practices in the world.
